Irfan Pathan is an Indian cricketer. He was born in Baroda on 24 June 1984 to Mohsin and Akhter, who were themselves, professional cricketers. Pathan attended St. Xavier’s High School in Mumbai, where he played cricket for the school team under his father’s coaching. His brother Yusuf is also a first-class cricketer for Baroda, and his elder sister Sana Pathan is married to Indian Test Cricketer Zaheer Khan.

Irfan Pathan, who is Muslim by religion, comes from a cricketing family. His father, Mohsin Pathan, was a first-class cricketer, and so was his brother Yusuf Pathan. He played for Baroda in the Ranji trophy. In addition, he played with the Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League. He has also played for Chennai Super Kings, Deccan Chargers, and Rajasthan Royals in the IPL.

He has also represented Saurashtra at the domestic level and India at the international level. He is considered one of India’s most explosive batsmen with his penchant for stroke play alongside being a dangerous medium-pacer considering his height is 6’4″.

Irfan Pathan’s career began in a big way when he took six wickets on his first-class debut for Baroda against Bengal at Kolkata in 2000-01. Then, he made his One-Day International debut against Zimbabwe in Harare in 2002. Then, he was selected for the Indian team for the 2003 Cricket World Cup, making his ODI debut against Ireland in Belfast, where he took two wickets and scored 43 runs.

During the 2003/04 home season, Irfan Pathan was approached by Indian Cricket League (ICL) officials to play for their unofficial Twenty20 league in Dubai. Instead, he ended up playing for the Ahmedabad Rockets franchise. After the Indian Cricket League folded in 2009, Pathan was banned from playing by BCCI for one year, but he was later picked for India’s Australia and South Africa tour.

But, he was not a part of the Indian team that toured Zimbabwe after the ban. In 2010, BCCI lifted the ban on Irfan Pathan, which paved his return to competitive cricket.

He made a comeback to competitive cricket in December 2010 when he played Ranji Trophy match against Haryana at Baroda and took three wickets in the first innings while scoring 85 runs in the second innings as Baroda went on to win that fixture by an innings and 41 runs.

He married his long-standing girlfriend Swati on 19 September 2009 in Mumbai in a Muslim wedding ceremony attended by close relatives and a few notable cricketers such as Yuvraj Singh, Sachin Tendulkar, and Zaheer Khan.

Irfan Pathan scored his first century in ICL on 4 March 2006 against Karachi at Sharjah Cricket Association Stadium. He scored an unbeaten 101 off just 59 balls, hitting ten sixes and eight fours with the help of a 59-run stand for the 7th wicket with Shoaib Malik to guide Ahmedabad Rockets to 175-2.

Irfan Pathan joined Kings XI Punjab in the IPL season of 2011. He was with the Royal Challengers Bangalore for about two years before joining Kings XI Punjab on a two-year contract in April 2011. He has become a regular team member and has played ten matches so far and taken 23 wickets.

He has also been part of Lalit Modi’s IPL team that held many terror allegations against them. Irfan Pathan is known for his aggressive batting. He is a very good batsman and a fast-medium bowler. Irfan Pathan has played for Mumbai Indians since the first season of IPL in 2008. He also has represented Deccan Chargers and Rajasthan Royals in the IPL; he played for both teams.

He made his first appearance in T20 cricket when he took four wickets and scored 84 runs against Australia in a warm-up match before the ICC World Twenty20 2007 in South Africa.

Irfan Pathan was selected as one of the 20 ICC World XI team members that played against Pakistan on 26 September 2007 at Lahore to commemorate 100 years of the Pakistan Cricket Board. However as it goes of the IPL 2022 he is not going to return.

Irfan Pathan is an aggressive player. He has been compared with Virender Sehwag for his batting style and is acknowledged for his ability to score quick runs. However, he has also been criticized for being inconsistent at times. He was dropped from the Indian team after a string of low scores but returned to the national side against Sri Lanka in June 2011 and scored 74 runs in that match.
