CSK won their fourth title in the 2021 league under MS Dhoni. The franchise had retained Dhoni ahead of the 2022 edition of the league, and he had been paid INR 12 crore for his services. In addition to possessing the ability to squish every bowling attack in his path, MS Dhoni is a batting powerhouse.

His calm demeanor and sharp cricketing mind make him lethal on the cricket field while the silverware in CSK’s trophy cabinets attests to his exceptional leadership abilities. 

Dhoni has decided to step down as captain of Chennai Super Kings (CSK), which has won four titles in the Indian Premier League (IPL). As part of the mega auction, MS Dhoni also retained Ravindra Jadeja alongside him as captain. From the time CSK was founded in 2008, MS Dhoni has been a captain and left an incredible legacy behind him.

In addition to MS Dhoni, newly appointed captain Ravindra Jadeja, Ruturaj Gaikwad, and Moeen Ali, CSK has also retained the 40-year-old as one of its four players for IPL 2022. Dhoni played 204 matches for Chennai in 12 seasons, winning 121, losing 82, and one match ended in a draw.

With four titles won by CSK in the years 2010, 2011, 2018, and 2021, the Ranchi-born Dhoni has a winning percentage of 59.60%, second only to Rohit Sharma with five titles.

Dhoni scored 4456 runs during the tournament as captain, making him the second-most successful skipper in IPL history. While CSK was banned from playing in 2016, and 2017, he played for Rising Pune SuperGiants. It was Steve Smith in 2017 who led the side, as he had been the captain in 2016.

As captain, he scored 22 fifties batting at an average of 40.88 and a strike rate of 137.36 in 178 innings, including 84*.  As a captain, Dhoni has also scored the second-most runs in IPL history, trailing only Virat Kohli with 4881 runs in the league.

Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings to 9 IPL Finals.

Interestingly, Dhoni has led his team to 9 IPL finals, a league record. During his first season, he captained the Chennai-based club to the final, in which they were defeated by the Rajasthan Royals team in the last over. After CSK defeated MI in 2010 final, He finally left his mark on the IPL  trophy. 

In 2011, the squad also won the cup, becoming Msd the first captain and CSK the first team that won back-to-back IPL titles. CSK was defeated in the finals of the IPL 2012 season by KKR. The team was also defeated in the final match in 2013 & 2015, both times by MI.

CSK made a significant recovery after their suspension in 2018, winning their 3rd title. In 2019, their squad lost the final to MI for the second time. They won their fourth trophy last year but are the defending champions of IPL 2022.
