Laxman made his debut against Australia in 1994 as an Indian U-19 player. While playing against Jason Gillespie and Brett Lee, who both made their debuts, he had a good match. He played for Hyderabad in the domestic league. On his debut, however, defeated by Punjab. Having performed well in Under-19 cricket, he came back for the 1994-95 Ranji Trophy season and amassed 532 runs in five games. This soon helped him break into the international team.
International Debut
A fifty by VVS in the second innings of India’s Test match against South Africa in Ahmedabad in 1996 marked his Test debut.
But because of heavy-named players present in the middle order, he was unable to find a stable place. From time to time, he was part of the national team, and then he returned to domestic cricket to regain his spot.
IPL career
Despite his efforts in the Indian T20 League, Laxman did not achieve much success. Hyderabad picked him in the inaugural edition as an icon player, but he failed to find a taker and did not participate after appearing for Kochi in 2011. He has now become part of the BCCI’s Cricket Advisory Committee and is the mentor for the Hyderabad franchise. In 2008, the Deccan Chargers were the first team to participate in the IPL. From then until 2010, he played for them. Kochi Tuskers Kerala acquired him in 2011 and he has not appeared in an IPL game since.
The last season in which Laxman was active, the 2011/12 season, saw India whitewashed in England and Australia. As a result, he was called into the squad for the following home Test series against New Zealand but unexpectedly announced his retirement even before playing in the first match in Hyderabad, his home city. In addition to serving as a TV commentator, he is also the mentor of Sunrisers Hyderabad in the Indian Premier League. Besides being named one of Wisden’s five Cricketers of the Year in 2002, he received the Padma Shri award from the Indian government in 2011.
IPL 2022
As well as VVS Laxman leaving SRH for the NCA head post, he is the mentor of the side. Tom Moody, Brian Lara, Muttiah Muralitharan, and Dale Steyn among others provide help and guidance to a young team alongside former champion Tom Moody. In February, they were accompanied by Simon Katich at the auction table, but he resigned before they began the new season.
